Graduation Night at the KDYS Killarney Youthreach

Killarney Youthreach marked its 10th anniversary on Thursday Night June 23rd by hosting a graduation and awards night ceremony. Killarney Youthreach, based in the KDYS Youth Centre, is run as part of a partnership agreement between the KDYS and KES. It was a joyous occasion that celebrated the hard work of the young people on the programme. The event was attended by Tim O’ Donoghue, CEO KDYS, Shivaun Shanahan, AEO of Kerry Education Service, Gemma O’Brien, KDYS Manager, students, parents, guardians, friends and staff of Killarney Youthreach.
The young people received certificates to mark their achievements in education and personal development. Awards received included FETAC Level 3 and 4, Gaisce-Bronze Award, Occupational First Aid-FETAC Level 5. In all, 25 students worked hard to complete 198 FETAC folders.
Students are progressing on to VTOS in Killarney, Post Leaving Certificate courses and to the world of work. As part of their preparation for their progression, young people also took part in a work experience programme. This entailed going on work experience, undergoing mock interviews, curriculum vitae preparation and work place visits. Killarney Youthreach would like to take this opportunity to thank the following dedicated work experience providers: The Dungeon, The Gleneagle Hotel, What Women Want, Paddy’s Restaurant, Hegarty’s Spar, Muckross, Bowlers Toyota, Killarney, Killarney Race Course, Gold Beauty Salon, Killarney Riding Stables, Mercy Pre School, House of Montessori, The KDYS, Pat Looney Motors, 2 Euro shop, Soundz of Music, Kenmare and Willowfield Garden Centre, Kenmare. John Adams, Co-ordinator of Killarney Youthreach thanked his staff for their tireless efforts in meeting the needs of these young people from the Killarney area.
