KDYS Volunteer Community Mentoring (VCM)
Adult Volunteers are now being sought to join the KDYS's Volunteer Community Mentoring (VCM) Project. The mentoring project, which has been running since 2006, aims to provide help and support to second-level students to increase confidence and self-esteem and set goals that they will aspire to.
The VCM project, which is the current 'Overall Kerry Community Award' winner, identifies and recruits Volunteer adults from the wider community to mentor students within the secondary school setting. Mentors deemed suitable to take part in the VCM project receive comprehensive training to enable them to provide the guidance and support required by the young people taking part in the programme.
Today the success of the VCM project has seen it rolled out into four schools in Tralee and South Kerry with plans to bring the service to more Kerry schools in the future. The schools who currently participate are: Tralee Community College, Mercy Mouthhawk Secondary School, Killorglin Community College and Intermediate Secondary School Killorglin.
If you would like to apply to become a Mentor in the VCM Project, please contact Kathleen Higgins, Youth Work Co-Ordinator or Catherine Kelliher at the KDYS, Denny Street, Tralee on 066 - 7121674.
